Could it be that one month is better than another for craft beer? I enjoy drinking craft beer just about any time for any reason, but February has a special place in the heart of California craft beer drinkers.

In 2012, the Senate passed resolution SCR 66 on a 36-0 vote declaring February Craft Beer Month in California. The resolution is a symbolic acknowledgement of the craft beer industry and emphasizes the economic impact of the industry. Below is a portion of the text of SCR 66. Hey, any excuse to drink is a good one. Long before the state officially got on board with craft breweries, Bay Area’s 21st Amendment Brewery and Magnolia Brewery started their Strong Beer Month, in what was then, a slow beer sales month. February 1st marks the start of the 12th Annual Strong Beer Month in the Bay Area. Strong Beer Month is a month long festival in February where the 21st Amendment and Magnolia Brewery each put six strong beers on tap at the start of the month, all over 8.5% ABV. When you’ve enjoyed all 12 beers from both breweries, you’ll get a commemorative glass. This year they recreated the Rolling Stone’s album “Some Girls." And don’t forget the parties that last all week – and sometimes two – long. The city that started the craft beer week trend (Philly) will be celebrating this year at the end of May. But if you find yourself anywhere near Cincinnati, San Francisco, Omaha, Arizona, New York, Sacramento or Portsmouth – enjoy a multitude of beers, where they’re brewed all week long. Cincinnati Beer Week | February 6-13, 2014 San Francisco Beer Week | February 7-16, 2014 Omaha Beer Week | February 14-23, 2014 Arizona Beer Week | February 15-22, 2014 New York Craft Beer Week | February 21 – March 2, 2014 Sacramento Beer Week | February 22 – March 3, 2013 Portsmouth Beer Week | February 22 – March 3, 2014 February isn’t just the month for lovers, it’s the month for craft beer lovers.
