For two days beer drinkers can taste more than 100 Belgian Christmas and winter beers in what is most likely the most popular Christmas beer festival in the world.  It's held in Essen, Belgium (north of Antwerp, near the Dutch border) on December 12-13.

A 15 cl tasting glasses is given for 3 Euro, or you can return it when you leave for full refund.

The event will also be nonsmoking, quite the rarity in Belgium.

The beer list is regarded as one of the best in the world. Just as last year, more than 100 different bottled beers will be available to taste, and 12 or 16 on draught. Virtually every Christmas beer produced in Belgium will be on hand, such as Brigand Christmas and Abbaye des Rocs Spéciale Noël, as well as some hailing from the Netherlands. Hot served Gluhkriek will also still be available. The soup and beefstew prepared with Christmas beer and bread baked with Christmas beer are also rapidly becoming a legend. Last year's festival drew about 1800 thirsty Christmas-beer-lovers to the festival in Essen. The crowd is international, coming from the Netherlands, England, France, Germany, Luxemburg, Sweden, Italiy, Spain, Russia, Denmark, Norway, New-Zealand, Japan, Canada and the states.

Check out the beer list regularly.   http://www.kerstbierfestival.be/ENG/index.htm
