“Bretta Weisse” to Be Unveiled on July 12 Paso Robles, CA: From Prussia with love comes Bretta Weisse, an untamed Berliner Weisse-inspired wheat beer set to be liberated from Firestone Walker Brewing Company’s Barrelworks wild yeast facility on July 12. “Napoleon called Berliner Weisse the ‘Champagne of the North,’ but we’d like to think that Bretta Weisse would render him speechless,” said Barrelworks Director Jeffers Richardson. Bretta Weisse underwent secondary fermentation with a proprietary mixed culture of brettanomyces and lactobacillus. Prior to bottling, Bretta Weisse was aged for eight months in 1,700-gallon French oak foeders. The final blend clocks in at 4.9 percent alcohol by volume. Only 350 cases of 500ml bottles were produced, and the beer will only be available at Barrelworks. Barrelmeisters’ Tasting Notes Bretta Weisse’s firm estery notes of stone and tropical fruit lead to funky, yeasty, citrus aromas. Soft cereal and oak flavors are enveloped by…

Stone Brewing Co. has announced their newest collaboration Collective Distortion IPA. STYLE: DOUBLE IPA ALC/VOL: 9.2% Available in: 22oz bottles & draft for limited time only (Escondido, CA) – In bringing together artisans from disparate aural planes, one might expect an offbeat, feedback-warped cacophony, shrill to the point of unlistenable. Yet, by inviting Kyle Hollingsworth, keyboardist for eclectic, jam-prone sextet, The String Cheese Incident, and Keri Kelli, wailing rock guitarist of Alice Cooper fame, we were able to make truly beautiful music. Turns out, these musicians have a great deal in common, both with each other and with Stone.
(Brooklyn Center, MN) – The latest from Surly Brewing Company, courtesy of their email blast: — Construction of our new Destination Brewery has been going well, when it’s been going. The record low temperatures have slowed things down a bit, since machines won’t run in sub-zero temperatures. Thankfully, the winter-hardened construction crew will work in weather that would kill most folks. They’ve been busy pouring concrete footings and foundations and then covering that concrete with insulated blankets so it will cure (seriously). So we’re still on track to open the new brewery and turn on the Beer Making Machine at the end of 2014. In the meantime, you can see the brewery construction progress via our Construction Camera.

(San Leandro, CA) - We are all stoked to bring back what we think is the perfect, active summer beer as well as our very favorite shift beer, Alpha Session IPA. It seems this concept is catching on. Back in 2010, when our brewers made Alpha Session for the first time, many locals thought a 3.8% ABV west-coast hoppy beer was a bit of a strange idea. Still, after getting a taste of the fresh, citrusy hops’ the balanced but assertive bitterness, and the smooth clean mouthfeel, it was clear that the Session IPA had legs as a style to go far (and since we’ve noticed a few other breweries following suit).
