Paso Robles, CA – Firestone Walker’s Double Jack IPA secured the hat trick in Belgium this week, landing a gold medal and top honors for the third straight year in its category at the prestigious Brussels Beer Challenge. The Brussels Beer Challenge was first held in 2012, and Double Jack has now earned the gold medal for the “Pale & Amber: Imperial IPA” category in each competition held to date. In the words of the Brussels Beer Challenge: “During two days, a tasting panel of 60 international renowned beer connoisseurs tasted 730 beers from all over the world. The participating beers were divided into categories based on origin, typicity and style and then evaluated. At the end of the two tasting days, the best beers, in each category, were awarded a gold, silver or bronze award.” In total, American craft breweries took home 12 gold medals out of 50 categories…

NewsWire: (Escondido, CA) – San Diego-based Stone Brewing Co. announced it has signed a formal letter of intent with the City of Richmond, Virginia, signifying the company’s interest in building its East Coast facility in the city’s Greater Fulton Community. Subject to local approvals, Stone plans to invest $74 million to construct a production brewery, packaging hall, destination restaurant, retail store and its administrative offices. Construction of the facilities will occur in phases. The brewery is anticipated to be operational in late 2015 or early 2016, with Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens opening a year or two after that. Ultimately, the company will employ more than 288 people.

"Agrestic" Leads Charge for Remaining 2014 Liberations from Barrelworks (Buellton, CA): The wild things are bouncing off the walls at Firestone Walker Brewing Company’s Barrelworks wild yeast facility, setting the stage for more unruly releases in 2014. The next bottling to be sprung from Barrelworks is Agrestic, an American wild red ale that will be released at the Liberation of Agrestic event on September 20. Only 600 cases of 375ml bottles were produced, and they will only be available at Barrelworks and the brewery in Paso Robles.
