Craft Beer at Coachella 2014

April 11, 2014 marked the first day that craft beer was offered at the innovative, critically acclaimed, six times selected by Pollstar as the “Festival of the Year”, known none other than the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. America’s largest music festival is defined by its diversity and jaw-dropping lineup of musical genres.cb

Nic Adler of L.A. Vegan Beer Fest and The Roxy, was recruited to develop a tantalizing, foodie paradise within the festival foregrounds. Adler enlisted friend and craft beer advocate, Tony Yanow, (of Golden Road and Tony’s Darts Away) to help assemble the festival’s craft beer list. With approximately 130 beers on tap, many hailing from the Golden State, it proved brews and tunes make perfect music together.

The craft beer industry is no stranger to collaboration. The craft brewer embodies not only an entrepreneurial spirit, but a basic human kindness towards his or her fellow brewer, an infatuation with the art of brewing itself and a respect for its consumers. Many of the top craft brewers are taking inspiration to the bottle in the form of collaboration, using ridiculous amounts of decadent ingredients and embracing radical beer styles.

(Escondido, CA) – In bringing together artisans from disparate aural planes, one might expect an offbeat, feedback-warped cacophony, shrill to the point of unlistenable. Yet, by inviting Kyle Hollingsworth, keyboardist for eclectic, jam-prone sextet, The String Cheese Incident, and Keri Kelli, wailing rock guitarist of Alice Cooper fame, we were able to make truly beautiful music. Turns out, these musicians have a great deal in common, both with each other and with Stone.

(San Leandro, CA) - We are all stoked to bring back what we think is the perfect, active summer beer as well as our very favorite shift beer, Alpha Session IPA.

It seems this concept is catching on. Back in 2010, when our brewers made Alpha Session for the first time, many locals thought a 3.8% ABV west-coast hoppy beer was a bit of a strange idea. Still, after getting a taste of the fresh, citrusy hops’ the balanced but assertive bitterness, and the smooth clean mouthfeel, it was clear that the Session IPA had legs as a style to go far (and since we’ve noticed a few other breweries following suit).

Press Release:

(Portland, OR) – On this day 30 years ago, brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer founded Widmer Brewing Company in Portland, Oregon. In 1984, the two brothers began cobbling together their first brewery on NW Lovejoy using a mismatched variety of reclaimed equipment, including retired dairy tanks and vessels initially intended for use in a nuclear power plant that was never built. Though they didn’t know it at the time, opening their small, hand-built brewery would help shape craft brewing history.
