Denver, CO – October 12, 2012 - Breckenridge Brewery of Colorado recently hosted other Colorado craft brewers to jointly brew a special beer, sponsored by the Colorado Brewers Guild, created specifically for this week's Great American Beer Festival.  The result:  "Porter's Pride," an imperial porter brewed with 200 pounds of dark chocolate from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.  “What makes this beer unique,” says Steve Kurowski, Marketing Director for the Guild, “is that it was brewed by brewers for brewers.”

A 22-oz bottle of Porter's Pride will be given to medalists in each of 84 categories at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony Saturday, October 13.  The public will be able to taste Porter's Pride after it is simultaneously tapped at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (after the awards ceremony) at Denver Breckenridge Brewery locations.  These locations include the Breckenridge Brewery at 471 Kalamath Street, Breckenridge Colorado Craft at 2220 Blake Street, and The Ale House @ Amato's at 2501 16th Street.

Lucky ticket holders for Saturday's Great American Beer Festival can also taste Porter's Pride in the Colorado Brewers Guild booth.

“We had a lot of fun brewing Porter's Pride,” recalls Todd Usry, Brewmaster and Director of Brewing Operations for Breckenridge Brewery.  “We had about 25 brewers in our brewery that day - an incredible gathering of talent.  I think everyone enjoyed chipping in and hanging out.”

The name of the beer, Porter's Pride, honors Danny Williams, cellar master for the Brewers Association, who passed away in January.   Among other monumental responsibilities, Williams collected and organized the several thousand beer entries each year for the festival.

The Great American Beer Festival, presented by the Brewers Association and hosted annually in Denver, started yesterday.  It draws 49,000 attendees over the course of 3 days.  Attendees have access to more than 2,200 different beers for tasting, and more than 500 breweries share their craft.
