Widmer Brothers Introduces Barrel Aged BrrrbonWritten by Erin Peters
PORTLAND, OR (Oct 2010) - Widmer Brothers Brewing, based in Portland, Ore., introduces its fall 2010 Brothers' Reserve release, Barrel Aged Brrrbon, personally created and crafted by founders and brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer and their team of expert brewers. This is the third release in the Brothers' Reserve Series.
Barrel Aged Brrrbon is Widmer Brothers' winter seasonal ale, Brrr, aged in single use bourbon barrels from Kentucky, the birthplace of bourbon. The brew was given a fresh charge of hops during secondary fermentation then put into barrels for four months of aging. Less than 650 barrels of this limited edition brew were produced.
"The Brothers' Reserve series is an exciting way for Kurt and I to collaborate with our brewers and experiment with new ingredients and techniques," said Rob Widmer. "Brrrbon was particularly fun to make because we took our popular Brrr and gave it a new twist. After aging for months, we were blown away with how well the bourbon and oak flavors complemented the beer and hope other beer lovers will feel the same way."
Barrel Aged Brrrbon has a forward caramel aroma and flavor, laced with bourbon flavor and aromatics, with undertones of vanilla. The hop profile balances the sweet candy and fruity flavors. The brew has a soft mouth-feel with a mild tartness and subtle dry finish.
Bitterness: 40 IBU
Alcohol by Volume: 9.4% ABV
Original Gravity: 20° PLATO
Barrel Aged Brrrbon is available in very limited quantities on draught and in 22-ounce bottles exclusively packaged in an individual box at select retailers nationwide* for a suggested retail price of $12.99.

About Widmer Brothers Brewing
What started as a dream for two ordinary brothers who just loved beer has now become a reality for two ordinary brothers who still just love beer. Kurt and Rob Widmer helped lead the Pacific Northwest craft beer movement in 1984 when, in their 20s, they dreamed of brewing American interpretations of authentic European style beers. In 1986, Widmer Brothers Brewing introduced the first American-style Hefeweizen; today, the unfiltered cloudy beer is the company's signature brew and one of the best selling wheat beers in the country. Based in Portland, Ore., the brewery produces a variety of beers including Drifter Pale Ale, Drop Top Amber Ale, Broken Halo IPA, and Deadlift Imperial IPA.
