St John Brewers Launches Fourth Beer In Five Years, Island Hoppin' IPAWritten by Erin Peters
St John, Virgin Islands (November 6, 2009) - St John Brewers introduces their fourth beer this winter - Island Hoppin' IPA. This India Pale Ale is a bright, copper color with a piney, citrus aroma. Its balanced malt backbone compliments the characteristic hoppiness, and the beer finishes with a lingering hop dryness.
A pre-release of the IPA is currently available in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and a full scale release is expected mid-winter. For distribution locations, see http://www.stjohnbrewers.com
The Tap Room, St John Brewers' flagship bar in Cruz Bay, will host an "Island Launch" Party for the Island Hoppin' IPA on November 13, starting at 4 pm in honor of the fourth beer. An additional launch party will follow in December when bottles arrive in the Virgin Islands.
St John Brewers has been crafting beer on the island of St John for five years. Owners Chirag Vyas and Kevin Chipman hail from the Northeast originally, Providence, RI and Auburn, NY respectively, and were fueled by a shared love of craft brews to fill this niche in the Caribbean beer market. The Tropical Mango Pale Ale (originally Virgin Islands Pale Ale) was the pair's first beer in June 2005, followed by the opening of the Tap Room in November 2006, the launch of the Island Summer Ale in May 2007, and the launch of the Liquid Sunshine Belgian-style Spiced Wheat in June 2009. St John Brewers is actively involved in the St John community, helping to sponsor the annual 8 Tuff Miles, the Friends of the Park Beach to Beach Swim, and the Love City Triathlon, among other things. A renovation/expansion this fall added a kitchen as well as 8 more draft lines on top of the original 8, for a total of 16 draft lines, the largest selection of draft beer in the Caribbean.
St John Brewers' currently brews and bottles Tropical Mango Pale Ale, Island Summer Ale, Liquid Sunshine Wheat, and Island Hoppin' IPA. All the beers are available in California, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey and Rhode Island and Florida. Locally, St John Brewers' beers are available by the bottle in many locations on all three Virgin Islands, and on draft at The Tap Room. Additionally, St John Brewers produces a line of homemade sodas - Root Beer, Ginger Beer, and the Green Flash energy drink. St John Brewers Root Beer is available by the bottle, distributed by West Indies Corp.
